Brothers Dan and Doug Hogan named the beneficiaries of the 14th annual Joe Hogan Memorial Golf Tournament today at a media event in the lobby of the Cancer Centre at Windsor Regional Hospital.

This year, proceeds from the event will be shared between the Windsor & Essex County Cancer Centre Foundation and the Windsor Spitfires Foundation.

“This event has been a success due to the continued support of the community, through sponsorships from local businesses, and golfers traveling from far and wide to play each year," said Doug Hogan. "Thanks everyone, on behalf of the Hogan family, that have been and continue to be involved in this event. We are eager to move forward with the Windsor & Essex County Cancer Centre Foundation and the Windsor Spitfires Foundation, providing our community with the premier charity golf event, held in Essex County and with the funds staying in Essex County."

More than $300,000 has been raised since 1997 for the Windsor & Essex County Cancer Centre Foundation; helping purchase I.V. pumps used in chemotherapy treatment, a CT Scan, MRI machine and prostate brachytherapy equipment used for local cancer research.

This year’s proceeds to the Cancer Centre Foundation will be designated to their Seeds4Hope grant awards program. Seeds4Hope is an annual program with research grant awards provided as "seed" or start-up funding for new research and new approaches to existing cancer research. Seeds4Hope is unique because the research is conducted by local scientists and physicians here in Windsor and Essex County.

In the last two years, the Foundation has awarded $500,000 to eight research projects involving 27 local researchers.

“It has been my pleasure to be a part of this annual tournament, and to work with the Hogan family and their dedicated committee," commented Foundation Administrator, Nancy Gibbons. "Our Foundation is privileged to once again be a joint beneficiary of this event, and we look forward to another fun, successful day, honouring Joe Hogan’s memory and supporting local charities."

Proceeds to the Windsor Spitfires Foundation will provide opportunities for children to be involved in sport and group activities without a question of affordability.

"The Windsor Spitfires Foundation is very thankful to the Hogan family for being selected as one of the beneficiaries of the golf tournament this year,” said Windsor Spitfires President, Bob Boughner. “We're looking forward to the tournament. It's going to be a great day."

In addition, the Hogan Family will be awarding scholarships for post-secondary education to applicants with families struggling through the fight against cancer. Further details are forthcoming.

The 14th annual Joe Hogan Memorial Tournament takes places Thursday, September 15th at Ambassador Golf Club, Pointe West Golf Club and Sutton Creek Golf Club.
